WHAT IS A 48 HOUR FILM CHALLENGE?

A 48 Hour Film Challenge is a competition where filmmakers put a team together to make a horror short in only 48 hours. The teams register and meet at a Sign Up Party to get their challenges for the competition. Each team will be given certain challenges that must be in the film. For instance, a line to say and a prop to use. Once a team is given their challenges, the clock starts and it's time to make a film. Over the 48 hours the team will write, film and finish their film for submission.

 

Once the films have been submitted, our Judges will get to work to decide the winning shorts. The award categories will be announced at a later date.

THE "CHRISTMAS CARNAGE" 48 HOUR FILM CHALLENGE

The Christmas Carnage: 48 Hour Film Challenge is our version of a 48 Film Challenge. In our evil twist, participating Filmmaker Teams will be creating a Christmas-themed Horror Short (6-8 minutes) to be shown at the Blood Over Texas Film Fest taking place at the Horror For The Holidays Expo. To enter and participate, register your team and attend the Official Sign Up Event (Fri. Nov. 7th from 6-8pm). There you will receive the specific film challenges that must be included in the film and turn in all required Releases and Forms. Once you have the challenges, the clock starts and your team will write, film, complete and deliver the film for submission by 8pm on Nov 9th.​ Once the films have been submitted, our Judges will get to work to decide the winning shorts.

HOW TO REGISTER YOUR TEAM

Register your team by filling out the Registration Form (LINK BELOW) and pay a registration fee of $30. The deadline to pay the fee is Nov. 1st. Teams will not be able to register or make payments at the Official Sign Up Event. The details on how to pay are given in the Registration Form.

Team Leaders: Please read the Team Leader Agreement and the Rules & Guidelines carefully before registering your team. The Team Leader Agreement must be signed in person at the Official Sign Up Event. Please read before hand so you are aware of its content. LINKS TO BOTH ARE BELOW

​THE OFFICIAL SIGN UP EVENT: NOV 7th (6-8pm)

The challenges for each team will be given at the Official Sign Up Event on Friday, Nov. 7th.  Location TBA. The event starts at 6pm and challenges are given at 8pm. Team Leaders, please arrive in plenty of time to sign all the appropriate forms. When you get your challenges at 8pm, the clock starts!

Only the Team Leader is required to attend the Sign Up Event. The Team Leader must be prepared to sign the Team Leader Agreement in person at the event. Release Forms (completed and signed) are due when the final film is submitted on Nov. 9th at 8pm. RELEASE FORMS BELOW

THE JUDGES

We are currently assembling a group of industry professionals and will announce them before the Official Sign Up Event. The judges will not be affiliated with Blood Over Texas or Horror For The Holidays.

THE CHRISTMAS CARNAGE SHOWCASE: DEC 6th at 5pm

All Short Films that the teams create will be shown at the "Christmas Carnage Showcase" during the Horror For The Holidays Expo on Saturday, Dec. 6th at 5pm. Located at the Blood Over Texas Film Fest Screening Room (upstairs, above Hall 2).

PASSES TO THE EVENT

We will give each team up to three Saturday passes to Horror For The Holidays Expo once they have submitted their film so they can come see the Showcase. The passes are good for 11am-7pm on Saturday the 6th.

AWARDS & PRIZES

BEST SHORT Winning team receives $100 Cash Prize and a $100 credit to be used towards Blood Over Texas merch.

BEST USE OF PROP Winning team receives a one-of-a-kind trophy specifically made for this year's challenge.​

FILMMAKER MEETUP: DEC 6th at 4pm

Teams are welcome to join the Filmmaker Meetup at 4pm, before the Christmas Carnage Showcase, to meet their fellow teams and filmmakers. The meetup is located right outside the Screening Room on the outdoor balcony. â€‹
