FRIGHT GALLERY 7
ARTIST PACKET
THE VENUE
VENUE DETAILS The Baker School is located in Hyde Park (central Austin). The Baker School is a historic building that was built in 1911 and served as an elementary, middle and high school and then as an AISD headquarters until it closed its doors. It was purchased in 2017 and carefully restored by Karrie and Tim League (founders of the Alamo Drafhouse). It now serves as an office space for businesses and as a rental venue.
The gallery will take place on the 1st floor: In the gymnasium, within two hallways (with the original lockers) and in an outdoor courtyard. All featured artists will be placed inside the gym and hallways. The art installation, The 7 Princes Statue Garden, will be featured in the outdoor courtyard. The main stage is in the gym and is where the DJs will be performing and the Live Art Set will take place. The indoor space is air conditioned and smoking is allowed in the Courtyard.
The entrance of the gallery will be located in the back of the school. We will have signage and decor leading attendees to the entrance. The front, main doors of the school will be locked.
PARKING Free parking is available in the two lots at the venue and along the residential streets around the venue. Keep an eye out for parking signs!
LOAD IN Load in will take place in the alley, just outside of the gallery entrance, in the back. For Load In you will be allowed to temporarily park outside the entrance while you drop off and then you’ll need to re-park.
LIGHTING/SOUND The venue is well lit, but we find most artists benefit from bringing additional lighting for their space. See Setting Up for more details. The DJs (and most of the sound) will be in the gym. You will be able to hear the music at a lower volume in the hallways. We ask that you don’t play your own music in your space. It can be distracting if more than one artist is doing so.
FOOD/DRINK There are no food options at the venue but we will have a bar set up to purchase drinks (alcohol and non). Due to TABC rules, no outside alcohol is allowed.

GENERAL INFO
GALLERY THEME This year we are building the gallery around the theme, The Seven Deadly Sins. All artists are required to unveil a new art piece based on one of the seven deadly sins. Please refer to the art application for further info on the theme.
• You are allowed to show many pieces of your art. This piece would be in addition to your collection and should be displayed prominently. Details on how to showcase your new piece is discussed in Setting Up.
• Please make sure that you don’t show your new piece publicly until after the gallery. Progress shares are great to help promote, just don’t show the final piece yet. They have to come to the event to see it first!
ART DISPLAY ONLY/NO MERCH As a reminder, this event is meant to be an art gallery and not a market. It’s very important that we distinguish this event as an art gallery so our audience has a different experience than at our vendor markets. For this reason, we no longer allow merch sales of any kind. No stickers, pins, cups, shirts, etc. will be allowed. If you display these things, you will be asked to remove them before doors. You will be allowed to sell your original art and art prints with no additional fees obligated to us.
NO AI ALLOWED No AI art will be allowed. All artwork shown must be original and created by the artist. Digital art is allowed as long as no AI programs or AI-assisted elements were used to create.
ARTIST SPACE: $75 (size: 8ft wide by 3ft deep)
• Each artist gets 2 wristbands. One for the artist and one for a helper/guest. You’ll get these when you check in at load in.
• No refunds given unless the show is cancelled.
PAYMENT The Approval and Acceptance process was explained in the Artist Application. This Artist Packet is supplied in the Fright Gallery Store on our site and can be accessed or downloaded there at any time. By purchasing your space, you agree that you have received and agree with the information given in this Artist Packet.
Payment is due within 5 days of your Approval Email. After the 5 days, if payment has not been received, we will release the space and open it up to another artist. Quick payment is appreciated as it helps us avoid payment delays and frees up spaces to others that are ready to join.*
* We know that wallets are tight right now. If you need time to pay or need to pay in installments, let’s talk. We just ask that you are totally committed to showing so we don’t end up with an empty spot at the last minute and a missed chance for others wanting to join.
• Artists will be paying for their space through our website via the FRIGHT GALLERY STORE. Password: FG7
(case sensitive). You can pay through the store via credit card, PayPal, Apple Pay or Venmo.
• Once we receive your payment, you will receive a receipt via email. The receipt is your confirmation. You won’t receive an additional email from us. Once you get that confirmation receipt, you’re in!
• In the Fright Gallery Store you can find the event poster and your “Featured Artist” image to share on social media. We’ll add your name to the FB event page and artist list on our website within a few days. Please share the event often to make sure we stay in the algorithm. You are also welcome to share your progress shots or any samples of your art in the FB EVENT PAGE.

SETTING UP
DISPLAYS Because each artist’s work is unique, each artist’s setup is unique. Some have hanging art, some have standing art. That’s why we give general dimensions and leave it to the artist to decide how best to display. Grid walls and other vertical displays should be used to hang 2D art and tables or bookcases/shelving for 3D standing pieces like sculptures. In some instances you can use a combination of walls and tables.
• Everything must fit within the dimensions given! Many artist spaces are in hallways and in aisles, so it’s important to keep to the dimensions so everyone can fit and walkways are open for attendees. When in doubt, set up your space before hand and measure.
• The artist is responsible for providing their entire setup (walls/shelves/tables, art print table and chair).
• Hanging items should be on grid walls, pegboard/wood panels or easels. Most standard grid walls are 2 feet wide and can be arranged in different ways. They can have feet attached or can be zip-tied together in a folding or accordion-type setup to make it stand on its own. You can often find used grid walls and other displays on FB marketplace or buy new online. See the attached examples at the end of the Artist Packet.
• All displays must be free-standing and can not lean or touch the walls of the venue. Artists are responsible for any damage to the venue (damage from displays, paint, fake blood, glitter, anything).
• We will not have pipe and drape available. In the gym we’ll have a few center aisles where artists will be back to back. Please consider bringing a sheet or other drape to clip on the back of your grid walls to help camouflage artists behind you. The same applies if you are in the hallway since you may be placed in front of a door or other things hung on the wall. This is not necessary but we’ve seen a few artists do it and it looks nice and helps the art standout.
ART PRINTS As we’ve mentioned, we want to keep the focus on the displayed art. If you want to sell art prints, please place them subtly in your space. Either next to your display or slightly behind an end of the display. Depending on the holder you use for art prints (or the size or amount of art prints) this may be challenging. Please contact us if you have questions or need suggestions.
ADDITIONAL LIGHTING We highly suggest bringing your own additional lighting to really showcase your art. Clip on lights for the top of your grid walls or table lights/spotlights work well. Battery-operated devices are ideal. There are some outlets, but depending on where you are, they may not be easily accessible. For those that suggested to be near an outlet on the application, please bring your own extension cord (and/or surge protector).
ARTWORK LABELS Like an art gallery, please feel free to add tags/signs on each of your pieces. The tag would list: 1) Title of your piece 2) Media 3) Cost or NFS (not for sale) 4) Your name
• Business cards or ways to contact you (i.e. a sign with a QR code) in your space is also a great idea.
NEW THEMED PIECE Make sure to display your new piece in a significant place in your display. You want to make sure the attendees are clearly aware of which is your new piece. Perhaps giving it it’s own light or place fabric behind it? Anything that really showcases it.
• We will be supplying each artist with a sign indicating their chosen sin for their piece. This will be displayed next to your piece with tape or a clip (we’ll have some on hand as well).

EXTRA OPPORTUNITIES
Beyond the artist showings we have a few extra opportunities for artists at the event. At sign up you were given the chance to let us know if you wanted to participate. If you didn’t, but now want to join, let us know asap.
LIVE ART SET The rules for the Live Art Set will be more challenging and will follow our theme. We will pick 7 artists to participate. Each artist will be given one of The Seven Deadly Sins in a sealed envelope, minutes before the set begins on the stage. Then the clock starts as the DJs score the 30 min set.
LIVE ART DEMONSTRATIONS You do have the opportunity to create a piece in your space. Maybe you want to create a piece during the 5 hours of the event? Maybe you want to bring in a live model to use? We want to be able to include your creative ideas, so if you’re interested, let us know so we can make sure you are placed in the best area for this.
• Please bring a rug or canvas for the floor to prevent spills in your space. If you bring canvas or your rug isn’t secure, please use gaffer or painters tape on the edges so no one trips. We’ll have some tape on hand if you need some. Do not use duck tape or masking tape as it leaves a residue!
ART INSTALLATION The 7 Princes Statue Garden, based on the concept of the Seven Princes of Hell, is open to any artist or group of artists that want to create a statue. This includes the featured artists that are showing in the gallery and outside artists, groups and businesses. There is no cost to add a statue. There is a separate application to contribute if you’re interested. That link is shared on the website.

LOAD IN/OUT
LOAD IN: 1-4pm / LOAD OUT: 10pm-12am
• When you arrive for load in, you’ll be able to temporarily park in front of the entrance to the gallery (located in the back of building). We ask that you quickly drop your stuff off in your spot and hurry back to re-park your car.
• No load in will be allowed after 4pm to avoid artists loading in at doors. It becomes a mess if we have late artists trying to load in while guests are already walking through the event. By making sure you’re all loaded in by 3pm, it allows you an hour before doors to continue setting up.
• Please bring your own carts or dollies to use for load in. There are none available at the venue.
CHECK IN When you arrive for load in, you’ll check in with our staff at the front door. They will check you in, give you your two wristbands and show you where to go on the map. We will also be emailing you the map prior to the show and will have your name in your space.
